October 2025 Meeting Minutes

October 2025 Meeting Minutes

The Carondelet Neighborhood Association met on Monday, October 20, 2025 at the Carondelet branch of the St. Louis Public Library. We had 23 attendees.

Here are the highlights of what was shared during the meeting.

CNA Board President Kyla Oudshoorn welcomed everyone. She shared:

  • Our monthly trash clean ups on second Saturdays are going well. She has begun leaving trash bags at the I-55 highway exit, and people are using them, which helps control trash.
  • She also shared the latest about the rehab hospital that is preparing to open at 5500 S. Broadway.
  • Our neighborhood National Night Out on October 7 was a success. We thank Sean Fauss, Jimmy Lappe, Anne Schweitzer and Steve Butz for donating the bounce house for the kids; Bar PM for donating beer; Michigan Market for donating hot dogs; and a neighborhood residents for donating additional food and snacks.

Rebecca Hankins from Forest ReLeaf of Missouri, a nonprofit tree nursery, joined the meeting to share about street trees. Forest ReLeaf is partnering with the City Forestry Division to plant 3,200 trees in the city (1,600 in 2024 and 1,600 in 2025) with funds from the Inflation Reduction Act. Homeowners whose property is slated for a new tree will receive a letter in the mail and a hangtag on their door. They have the opportunity to opt out if desired. Residents who are not slated for a tree may request one by calling the Forestry Division.

Events Committee Chair Alexis Siman invited everyone to join our first ever Trick or Treat Trail, a list of houses available for trick or treating on Halloween Night. She will share a map of addresses the week of Halloween. She is also organizing a food drive and holiday caroling. Stay tuned for details!

First Ward Alderwoman Anne Schweitzer provided a number of updates:

  • The revamped Ivory Triangle looks great and hosted the successful Fanetti Fest this past weekend.
  • She introduced Board Bill 78, "an ordinance updating the Forestry Division's regulations relating to weeds, native plants, and other vegetation in the City of St. Louis; containing definitions, reporting, abatement, enforcement, and severability provisions."
  • The Board of Aldermen is also working on a bill to update safety regulations related to golf carts, Board Bill 62.
  • The S. Broadway project, which would include the creation of a protected cycle track and repaving, is finally going to bid and should begin work next spring.
  • The next meeting related to ARPA funding has been moved to November 4.
  • The next joint 1st and 3rd Ward Town Hall will be held Saturday, January 31 at noon at Carondelet Library.
  • Anne expects to be on maternity beginning sometime in November. Her legislative assistant Christian Bishop can assist residents in her absence. We wish her and the baby well!

Third Ward Alderman Shane Cohn reported:

  • Grand Avenue is set to be repaved from Hall Street to Holly Hills Avenue. He is working to get the jersey barriers in the medians removed, but they need directional signage before that can be done.
  • The Louisiana Calm Streets work continues.
  • Work should begin soon on Virginia Avenue streetscaping from Bates north.
  • He has set aside $250,000 for painting crosswalks in residential areas of the Third Ward.
  • The City is working on a zoning update. Residents can find out more by following ZOUP.
  • As always, Shane reminds us that if we're not reporting issues to the city, they don't know about them. Residents can now contact the Citizens Service Bureau at 311, in addition to via the web.

The next neighborhood social will be on Friday, November 21 from 5-7pm at Aunt Jamie's at 6721 S. Broadway.

Our final neighborhood association meeting for 2025 will be on Monday, December 15 from 6-7pm at the Carondelet Library.
